My name is Voon Kent Wong and I am currently enrolled in Diploma of Information Technology at Deakin University at Burwood, Australia. I completed my secondary studies from a high school named Australia International school Malaysia (AISM) in Malaysia and I have moved to Australia on July in 2018 to pursue my tertiary education.
It was a YouTube Video that I came across in my teenage years that has inspired me to get involved with Information Technology. I remember watching a YouTube video about DeepMind where the engineers put an AI to battle against one of the best player in Starcraft (One of the popular video game during that time). It was really interesting for me the idea of training AI to do any task flawlessly and, at the same time I saw many opportunities in the future with this technology. Hence I want to pursue in Computer Science at Deakin University.
I am most interested about Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. It is what has inspired me to do the course and truly shown me what a computer are capable of.
An emerging technology for me are new technologies that is under development that will be impactful to our world once it is finalized, an example of an earlier form of emerging technology was the GPS. Disruptive technologies are creations that will change the traditional way of doing business such as E-commerce and ride sharing. The are not much difference between these two technologies as they are somewhat related, however an emerging technology does not necessarily disrupt the market but it can also benefit it.
I will take computer science as my major in the university. Object orientated programming, Machine Learning and Artificial intelligence are the most interesting subject for me.
I have used a 3D printing Machine and engraving machine before in an arts class provided in my school. The 3D printing machine was a smaller model it we can’t really do much crazy stuff, but I’ve printed joint piece that was used in my final art project.
Although my technical skill in programming is not developed yet, but through the course of SIT 307 data mining and machine learning and SIT 374 Team project management and practice in my timeline, I feel that it can help me learn by applying my soft and technical skills that are relevant in my career goal as a data scientist/ machine learning engineer.
